1. Panasonic Trimmer ES2113PC – Editor’s Choice
Superior Comfort and Coverage
The lightweight and discreet design of this device, as well as the quietness of it, makes it convenient to carry around and use. While the pivoting trimming head allows for superior comfort and coverage as it follows the natural contours of the face.
Easy To Control
The design also makes the device easy to control, helping one to easily treat smaller, more delicate areas, like the upper lip, nose, ears, and eyebrows. Panasonic has further enabled the device to trim and shape eyebrows, by including two eyebrow trimmer attachments in the package. Also included in the package, is a brush for cleaning the head, and a small pouch to store the trimmer.
Battery Operated
The device does not use too much power, and the battery door slides open nicely making it easy to replace the battery. Unfortunately, the thin hypoallergenic blade, which prevents irritation when trimming sensitive skin, is difficult to replace. Luckily, other users have found one blade to last them years of daily use.
Wider Head Allows A Faster Epilation
The wider head of the device allows for speedier epilation, which makes it ideal for treating larger body areas in just one stroke. The six attachments and two-speed options further enable the epilator to be used throughout the body.
Micro Grip Technology
The MicroGrip tweezer technology is an improvement of the close-grip technology, as it removes even the shortest hairs at 0.5mm. The tweezers are distributed in such a way that they are able to catch onto all types of hair, short or thin. Even flat-lying hairs can be pulled up using the soft lift tips, and long hairs can be trimmed before epilating using the trimmer cap attachment.
Extra Attachments
The device also comes with a bonus facial brush, that exfoliates the skin, and removes impurities from the pores and makeup. While the cordless nature allows it to be used for both dry and wet epilation. Unfortunately, the one downside to the device is that it can be extremely painful for epilation newbies to use.
3. Panasonic Bikini Trimmer ES246AC – Budget Buy
Perfect For Travelling
This device is perfect for travelling. It is cordless, battery-powered, and is compact and lightweight enough to slip neatly into any luggage. The device promises around 45 minutes of power on two fully charged batteries. This means you will have plenty of sessions without having to replace batteries, as the angled trimmer head removes hair quickly and easily.
Hypo-Allergenic Blade
The smooth, rounded tips of the trimmer head, and the hypo-allergenic blade, further enable the device to give you smooth results, instead of redness and bumpiness on sensitive areas.
Five-Position Shaping and Trimming Options
You’re also saved from bumps and cuts, as the sharp blade is shielded from direct contact with the skin by the protective guard. The user is also able to trim their hair to the exact length they prefer using the five-position bikini shaping and trimming options.
The device, however, does not provide a close shave, and you will likely be left with 1/16th of your hair untrimmed. But, this is necessary in order for the device to not catch onto sensitive skin in your bikini area.

4 Tips To Make Epilation Pain Free
Epilators can be painful to use, but, thankfully, there are numerous ways to reduce the pain or even take it away completely.
1. Epilate Wet
Lightly exfoliate your skin right before you epilate, or even the day before. Then, just before you epilate, lather a foaming gel or cream on your skin, and add a bit on the head of your epilator as well. Slowly move your epilator across your skin in the opposite direction of your hair growth.
You will feel a slight prickly sensation as your hair is picked up. Continue to epilate until you no longer feel the pricks, and then rinse off the cream. If you find you’ve missed some areas, just epilate over them again.
2. Squeeze Your Skin
Pain receptors lie below the skin, so if your press underneath the skin where the receptors are, you might be able to disrupt the pain signal sent to your brain. The idea is to squeeze a portion of the section you are epilating with your index finger and thumb. Squeeze tightly below your skin to raise the area up. Gently epilate the hairs standing up.
3. Shorten Your Hair
Epilation works much better on shorter hair. Trim, wax, or shave, before epilating. As your hair begins to grow, you can start epilating. The hair won’t all grow at the same rate so you will be removing less hair with the epilator while building up a tolerance.
4. Don’t Epilate When Your Skin Is At It’s Most Sensitive
Epilating when you’re on your period can be especially painful. This is because your skin is the more sensitive during this time. Try to epilate a week or 2 after your period ends. Your skin is also more sensitive when there is caffeine in your system. Avoid drinking coke or coffee on the day you epilate.
Hair Removal On Different Parts Of The Body
Most epilators are designed for use on the entire body. However, you may want to use specific epilators or heads for certain areas. For example, a full-sized applicator wouldn’t be ideal for facial use or the bikini area. A lighter and more maneuverable epilator works best for the bikini area, while a small, facial epilator is more suitable for the face.
Most epilators aren’t suitable for eyebrows, however, even the facial ones. In order to control the hair, you pick up from your eyebrows, it is safest to use an epilator with just a few tweezers and a rotatable head that allows for better precision. You won’t be able to shape your eyebrows but can clean them nicely.
Tips For Using An Epilator On Underarm Hair
Before using your epilator, hop in a warm shower to open your pores. This will make the hair easier to remove. After doing this, dry your underarm hair with a drying powder. Rub the powder on your underarms until there’s no moisture left, and then brush off the excess powder. The epilator grasps hairs better when they are dry.
Next, you should pull your skin tight using your free hand, and lift your arm up over your head as far as you can. Set the epilator on the lowest setting and use light, quick strokes. Armpit hair grows in different directions, so move the epilator downwards, upwards, and side to side.
5 Steps To Improve Epilating The Bikini Area
- Properly exfoliate 24-48 hours before epilating, and 24-48 hours after.
- Trim your hair to 1.5-2 millimeters.
- Use a numbing cream (lidocaine) or take a painkiller.
- Have a warm/hot shower that prepares your pores for the epilator.
- Keep your skin taut.
After epilating your bikini area, your skin may be swollen or bleeding. Rinse off the hair and close your pores with a cool shower. Then, apply a lotion, like cortisone cream or aloe vera, to soothe the pain.
Leave the lotion in the fridge for a few hours before you epilate. Don’t engage in sexual activity for at least a day after epilating your bikini area, as the pores aren’t completely closed yet, and are thus open to infection.
