How to Shave the Right Way

Ladies often look for guidance in how to shave the right way. With so many tips and the loads of advice out there on the internet, from friends or family, finding the right way for yourself can be quite a challenging experience. Essentially, that is what it is all about, isn’t it?

Finding the way that works best for you. Good advice is especially necessary for first-timers.

When a young woman first starts shaving, they don’t have to want to repeat the mistakes already made by thousands of other women.

Finding the best tips at this point is necessary because nobody wants to sit with nasty razor cuts, bleeding all over, or end up with painful infections and not be able to shave again until the wounds have healed. By that time, you could be wearing winter clothes in summer because your hair has grown out so dark and thick, that you look and feel like a primate.

First Things First

  • Make sure you purchase a good quality razor blade. This may sound obvious but many choose to go for the cheap option that offers a bunch of disposable razor blades, because they seem affordable. Don’t do it. A high-quality razor can typically be seen by its asking price.
  • A good quality razor will also come with good quality blades that do not become blunt after the first shave. They will also generally have two to three rows of blades that make for a much smoother, longer-lasting shave. The cheaper versions are often noticeable by their single blade, which is prone to rust and becoming blunt quickly, making it good for one use only. Don’t be fooled by the price because this can be an expensive purchase, and one that you will likely regret.
  • When that blade is dull, ditch it. Do not even think of hanging onto any longer just in case you need it. No! Develop good shaving habits from the start so that you do not need to deal with cuts and infections down the line.
  • Invest in a good lady’s shaving cream, gel or foam, rather than simply opting for a basic bath soap. A good foaming product is far more luxurious than ordinary soap and will protect your skin much better when shaving. It will also leave your skin feeling silky smooth and well-moisturized.
  • Using a good gel for shaving does not mean that a quality moisturizer will not also be needed to protect your precious skin. Make sure you purchase both for best results.

10 Tips For Shaving Your Legs

What Is The Correct Way To Shave Your Legs?

  1. How to shave the right way means using a clean razor blade. This should go without saying, but is always worth the mention. Hygiene is vital when bringing something that sharp near to your skin. You can use a basic bleach or a stronger household sanitizer to clean your razor and keep it that way. Regular cleaning will also extend the life of your razor blades.
  2. Prepare your legs by having a soap bath to get rid of perspiration and environmental buildup. Another good way to extend your blade life as it won’t be cutting through oily layers and hair. Removing the oily layer will also allow your razor blade to get closer to the hair follicle, making for a smoother shave. Doing this will also extend the time between shaving.
  3. Lather on your shaving gel or cream, beginning with one lower leg first. Now, you can decide whether you want to shave with the direction of hair growth, or against it.
  4. Shaving with the hair growth places less stress on your hair follicles, and lessens the chance of ingrown hairs, but it also means you will need to shave more regularly. This method also does not result in a really smooth shave, with rough little stubbles of hair growth appearing almost within a day.
  5. Shaving against your hair growth, beginning from the ankles upwards toward the knee, offers a really smooth shave. Long, single strokes from the bottom upwards are advised. The fewer strokes you make, the better as this will help to prevent unnecessary skin abrasions and irritation.
  6. Once you get to the knee area, use short purposeful razor strokes to remove the hair in this area. Be careful when shaving the back of your knee area, since this is particularly sensitive and prone to razor nicks.
  7. Continue with your upper leg, again using generous amounts of gel or cream to facilitate the shaving process. More is better as these products protect your skin.
  8. Once you have finished with one leg, begin with the other.
  9. After completion, give your legs a good wipe down to remove excess shaving gel. Pat your legs gently to dry them off with a towel. Avoid using hot water immediately after you have shaved as this can open up your pores to allow germs to enter, increasing the risk of infection. Rather use a gentle cleanser to clean the area, or rinse the gel off with cool water to close your pores.
  10. Later, you can follow up with a bath or shower, followed by a good moisturizer to maintain the integrity of your skin.

Shaving Under Your Arms Or Your Pubic Region

You can use the same tips to shave under your arms. Shaving against hair growth is my personal preference because it prolongs the periods in between needing to shave.

As far as shaving the pubic region is concerned. My advice is, just don’t do it! Unless you need to remove a few stray hairs, rather leave this area to the professionals.

Ladies can make these tips a part of their hygiene routine. How to shave the right way means that you should not need an antibacterial ointment or salicylic acid to treat nicks and cuts. Having these on hand is always useful though, especially when shaving is an unfamiliar process.

Even if you are a seasoned shaver, it will do no harm to have these products available in case of slipups.
